Merry Christmas is Mariah Carey’s first Christmas album and her fourth overall. The album features both covers and original Christmas songs for that festive season. Although the album has a Christmas sound, it still blends R&B and gospel. The record peaked at number three on the Billboard 200, four on Mega Charts (New Zealand), two on ARIA, and much more.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You”, “Joy to the World”, and “O Holy Night” were released as singles for the album.“ “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has become a staple in Christmas music as it’s one of the best-selling in the Christmas genre and has charted every year since its release. In general, the album is the best-selling Christmas album of all time and has sold fourteen million copies worldwide. It’s certified five-times platinum in the US, double platinum by RIAJ (fourth best-selling album in Japan by a Western artist), and six-times platinum by ARIA.
